RMS Celebrates 25 Years in Pharmacy Point-of-Sale

RMS is celebrating 25 years in pharmacy point-of-sale! 🎉 Here are 3 things that best define who we are, where we've come from, and where we're going.

On a 25th anniversary, something silver is the traditional gift. On a 25th birthday, maybe you get treated to a special dinner out.  

That’s because a quarter century of anything is something worth celebrating. And after 15 years of writing articles about the pharmacy industry and our products & services, I thought that penning a post to commemorate 25 years of successful partnership with community pharmacy would be easy.  

Turns out, though, that trying to sum up 25 years of growing a business, while expressing our gratitude to all of the pharmacy professionals who got us here, and jamming in all of our hopes and dreams for the future of point-of-sale AND the pharmacy industry into a single article is... kind of hard.  

So, instead, I asked myself what 3 things I’d want everyone to know about RMS and what we do. Not the sales pitch, or a list of functionalities, but 3 things that might tell a reader who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re going.

Pharmacies Shape Our Solutions 

RMS was the first in the industry to do a lot of things. We developed the very first pharmacy management integration specification; a standard that is still in use by companies across the industry today. We created the very first use case for electronic signature capture in pharmacies. Our Meds-to-Beds solution represented another industry first.  

Innovation is at the heart of what we do, and it always has been. But much of that innovation comes from listening to pharmacy needs and trying to do things with point-of-sale that weren’t thought possible before.  The pharmacy professionals who use the RMS system each day and share their feedback with us help to make the product better every single day. Many of the new things we try are because someone said, “It would be nice if…"

Partnership Is at Our Core 

Running a pharmacy takes more than one person. And it takes more than one partner. Our philosophy has always been that a pharmacy should be able to choose who those partners are and not face arbitrary limitations. So, from the very start, RMS focused on that flexibility. And despite a changed pharmacy technology landscape, we still do.  

Our integrations mean pharmacies can choose the pharmacy management system that works best without settling for less on the point-of-sale front.  They mean pharmacies don’t have to pay too for much essential services like credit card processing. Partnerships and integrations have also opened the door for RMS pharmacies to make supplement recommendations based on drug-induced nutrient depletions right from their point-of-sale. Another RMS first!

We Believe in What We Do 

If you’re a frequent RMS blog reader, you might know that our mission is to make our pharmacy clients the most profitable & customer-centric in the industry. It’s a tall order in an industry that’s constantly facing new challenges. We firmly believe that every pharmacy can grow profits through more efficient processes, easy access to robust data, better customer engagement, and so many more bits and pieces that, while point-of-sale based, have lasting impact far beyond the transaction. 

Everything we do is about helping pharmacies achieve their goals through point-of-sale tools, hands-on, goal-oriented training, and the very best support we can provide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  

So, as I wrap this post, I realize that we celebrated our “silver” anniversary doing our very favorite thing: working with amazing pharmacies across the United States! Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our 25-year journey. We can’t wait to see where the road leads to next!
