How Will You Achieve Your Meds-to-Beds Program Goals This Year?

Is a Meds-to-Beds bedside discharge program on your to-do list for 2019?

animated-bedside-discharge-rms-posIs a Meds-to-Beds bedside discharge program on your to-do list for 2019? For many organizations, implementing Meds-to-Beds will be high on the priority list this year as they strive to reduce re-admittance rates, increase patient compliance and satisfaction, and even boost outpatient pharmacy sales.

For many years, our EvolutionPOS and our EvolutionPOSV2 tablet have set the stage for Meds-to-Beds programs in organizations across the country. We’ve been happy to be able to help with so many different Meds-to-Beds Implementations.

But we’ve also learned that every implementation comes with its own unique set of challenges. Every organization operates just a little differently and for some, there are barriers to Meds-to-Beds implementation that might be a little bit difficult to surpass.

  • Network Infrastructure – A fully functional mobile point-of-sale application relies on a strong wireless network foundation. For some organizations, this foundation might not yet be strong enough to support live transaction processing from every single patient room.
  • PCI Concerns – If there’s a hotter topic than Meds-to-Beds, it’s definitely PCI Compliance. Although Validated P2PE Processing can be accomplished with the EvolutionPOSV2 Solution, the concern of processing any credit card data over a wireless networks stops some IT departments from giving it the green light.

If those scenarios seem familiar, you’re not alone. And facing those obstacles doesn’t mean you’re at a dead end. It just requires a different kind of Meds-to-Beds solution. Some of the same challenges faced by outpatient pharmacies implementing Meds-to-Beds are also faced by retail pharmacies performing home deliveries. Those similar challenges mean that you can easily adapt a home delivery program for use in a Meds-to-Beds environment. Here’s how it works:

  • Prepare transactions in the pharmacy just like any other order and mark them for delivery
  • Using credit card tokenization (a feature available with many of our credit card processing integrations), you can securely collect credit card data for charging transactions to a patient’s credit card. You can also charge the delivery to an A/R account or mark that payment is still pending.
  • Once you’ve prepped all of your transactions, they are loaded onto an Android tablet and you’re good to go. At the patient bedside, you’ll capture signatures, collect cash payments if you choose to and mark deliveries as completed. It all happens offline so wireless infrastructure isn’t a concern and no credit card data is processed by the device at any time.
  • After completing all deliveries, it’s back to the pharmacy. The tablet is connected back up to the pharmacy wireless network again and signatures are synced with your point-of-sale. They’ll appear just like any other transaction processed in the pharmacy.
