Why Even the Smallest Problems in your Pharmacy Matter
Even the smallest problems can have major impact for your independent pharmacy.
This week, I’ve been out digging holes in my back yard. Don’t worry, I’m not losing my mind and looking for buried treasure. I’m actually building a dog run to protect my garden from mischievous little, and not so little, paws. Of course the first, and most time consuming part of this process, is digging 2 foot deep holes for my fence posts. What I’ve discovered during this undertaking is that my back yard is full of rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Every time I think I’m getting somewhere I hear a sharp clang as the posthole digger hits yet another rock. Each time it happens, it seems that I’ve uncovered some boulder sized object that will be impossible to get around. It takes what seems like ages to pry the obstacle loose and remove it from my path. But each time I do, I find that my frustration was caused by something smaller than the palm of my hand. And I wonder, how is it that something so little can cause me so much consternation? It seems that the princess in The Princess and the Pea was on to something after all.
The lesson here is that even the smallest problem can halt your progress. If one gear in the machine that is your pharmacy is out of whack it’s enough to throw everything else off. Even a seemingly minor inefficiency can have a big impact. And when you find a problem that needs fixing, don’t ignore it or try to find a way to work around it. Remove the obstacle that’s keeping you from reaching the goals you set in your pharmacy. If you’re not sure where to start with any changes you need to make, talk with trusted pharmacy technology partners to help you identify problems and find solutions.
