As a pharmacy owner, you work hard, and deservedly, need to take a vacation once and a while.  Vacations are necessary, to recharge, spend time with friends and family, relax and unwind.  At RMS, we believe this whole heartedly.  Work/life balance is part of our culture, and it always has, since we started nearly 19 years ago.  We allow our employees to take up to 6 week's vacation per year, paid time off for volunteerism, and try to avoid working our employees more than 40 hrs/week.

In under 2 weeks, American Express is once again promoting Small Business Saturday.  Why is this important to you?  Last year, retailers saw 95 million shoppers on Small Business Saturday.  $14.3 Billion is spent on Small Business Saturday.  You're going to be open anyway, so why not promote it and get your piece of the action?

How? Spread the word in your community.  Run some specials.  Merchandise some impulse items at your point-of-sale counter.  Display holiday gift items on your end-cap displays.

What Are Your Pharmacy Competitors Doing Right?

We at RMS frequently focus on the things that independent and hospital outpatient pharmacies excel at when compared to the big chains and box stores:

- Better, personalized service

- Actual patient care

- Disease state management, and

- Sensible product recommendations

These and other areas underscore the important niche that more independently focused businesses fill in the communities they serve. 

Despite all of this, big box stores still represent a large portion of our customer's competition, and they actually do some things right. As much as I don't like to think about what they're doing right, to be more successful you can't ignore these areas.
