Karen Deckard

In 2008 I was working in a quarter cubicle in the cancellation department of an insurance company. It was definitely one of those jobs that helped me figure out what I didn’t want to do with the rest of my life. I jumped at the opportunity to come to RMS to work as a sales assistant and help customers through the process of becoming certified to accept FSA cards.

 

All these years later, I’m happy that I made the leap. Sales evolved into project management which eventually became customer service management. From there the Customer Success department was born, with the goal of making sure our customers get everything they need from their RMS partnership.  While all of this was happening, I was also writing our weekly blog, and dipping my toes into the marketing side of RMS. And while I had imagined myself working as a Customer Success Manager for years (and years and years) to come, I eventually returned to my sales roots to run the Sales & Marketing team here at RMS.  

 

At home, I am mom to two amazing kiddos, Owen and Harrison. Adventuring with them is my absolute favorite thing. We love travelling and experiencing new things with them. And despite the notoriously wet Washington weather we enjoy the outdoors with our four-legged family members, and try to bike, golf, swim and hit the archery range when we can.  Not to say that rainy days are unappreciated. There's always room for a lazy day on the couch watching movies and playing video games or board games.

 

In my down time, I love to sew, quilt and crochet. I watch too many baking shows and have so much fun perfecting recipes and new techniques. 

  

I also spend way too much time trying to convince my kids that Star Trek is better than Star Wars and am an avid reader of all kinds of books although of late I’ve enjoyed the escape of science fiction and fantasy. There’s a special place in my heart for The Chronicles of Narnia.  I’m always on the lookout for book recommendations. Send them my way if you have them!
