3 Ways Pharmacy Point-of-Sale helps to Secure Customer Information

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Mar 02, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

The level of customer service that your pharmacy provides plays a major role in the overall success of your business. A exceptional customer experience can elevate your pharmacy to the next level so we often focus on ways to make that experience better, more convenient, easier and more unique.

But believe it or not, customers do care more than just service and convenience. While these factors are important, they don't mean much if your customers don't trust that their information will be secure with your pharmacy. From personal information to credit card information, your pharmacy has a lot of data to protect and the potential costs of not doing so are extremely high.

Pharmacy point-of-sale solutions can give you a leg up when it comes to securing customer information. Every sale in your pharmacy runs through your registers, so ensuring that data handled there is secure is a good place to start.

3 Things Your Pharmacy POS System Should Do

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Feb 23, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

4 years ago, I bought a new car. It had all the bells and whistles and the all-important (at the time) moon roof. I was pretty happy with it. At least for a bit. Then, about three years ago, I discovered that infant car seats do not fit comfortably in the back seat of my sporty little compact car, and that my toddlers hate having the windows open when we drive. Guess what never gets used?

When you're choosing a POS system for your pharmacy, the choice should be made based on the benefits, both present and future, that the system can offer. Although it's tempting to rely on what's the most convenient in the momentdoing so can lead to long term frustrations.

It's likely that more than one pharmacy POS system can check most of the boxes on your list of requirements and probably provide a few more features that you weren't even thinking you needed.  Even so, as you go to make your final decision, you may find yourself wondering if you're on the right track. Will this POS system meet your needs, and more importantly, help you meet your goals?  Not a bad question to ask.

Here are three things that your point-of-sale system should do for you.

3 Ways to Get What You Want from Your Pharmacy Technology Support Challenges

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Feb 09, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

I have a theory that technology in my personal life has it out for me. It never seems to work the way I want it to or think it should. Of course the minute I convince someone to help me fix it, the problem seems to magically disappear.

Technology is supposed to make life easier. But sometimes it doesn't always feel that wayWhen something that should be simple becomes needlessly difficult, it's hard to get past the frustration and move forward. This is especially true when it comes to technology that you use in your pharmacy business.  You can't really afford for it to be anything but crazy-easy.

Here's the thing about problems with technology.  There are certainly times when difficulties are caused by something that's broken. But there are also plenty of instances where the difference between getting what you want and hitting your head against the proverbial brick wall is simply a matter of perspective.  Here are three simple changes that can make the difference between frustration and satisfaction.

Is Your Pharmacy Ready for 6 More Weeks of Winter?

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Feb 06, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

Last Thursday, the groundhog saw his shadow and unwittingly forecasted a winter that will last 6 more weeks. Consequently, I spent the day feeling extra cold and longing for warmer weather to return to Western Washington just a bit more than usual (even though spring in Washington state is no guarantee of nice weather). Even so, I'm looking forward to longer days, hopefully fewer clouds and some fresh spring air.

I'm also looking forward to the end of cold & flu season. Especially with toddlers at home, my family spends the winter months trying to stay dry, warm, and away from other runny noses as much as possible.

In your pharmacy, it's a good time to make sure you are still well prepared to meet the needs of customers who don't escape one last bug before the season comes to a close. Here are 3 things you should do if you haven't already.

Building on Trust for a More Successful Pharmacy

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Feb 02, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

In 2016, pharmacists were once again labeled as the second most trustworthy professionals. Further proof that people in general understand the same things that we at RMS, and pharmacists all over the country, do. Pharmacies are more than a pit stop for prescriptions.

This article takes a closer look at the reasons that consumers place so much trust in pharmacies.  While nothing here may be news to a pharmacy with staff that understands their innate value to patients, there are some key facts that can help you elevate your pharmacy to the next level.

5 Reasons Why Small Pharmacies Benefit from Point-of-Sale

Posted by Mike Gross on Thu, Jan 26, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

Over the 10+ years I’ve worked at RMS, smaller pharmacies continually bring up the concern that they are too small to benefit from POS.  They feel that because their front end is limited, they have a small staff, or don’t do a huge script volume, point-of-sale is overkill.  This couldn’t be further from the truth, and let me explain why.

Why Flexibility in Your Pharmacy Technology is Severely Underrated

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Jan 23, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

My microwave drives me crazy. Of course, it beeps as expected when it's finished its cooking cycle.  But then it beeps again, loudly and repetitively 30 seconds later, and then 30 seconds after that, and so on until I open the microwave door or press the cancel button.

I get that some people might like this repetitive reminder feature.  I really do. "Hey, you forgot about something, come check it!"  I'm sure for some it's much appreciated.  But in my household, there's a good chance that I won't be able to open the microwave immediately because I've been derailed from my plans to make a quick cup of tea to dole out snacks to my toddlers or intervene in the latest toy dispute.  I simply can't get back to the microwave immediately. So I get to listen to a very loud "beep beep beeeeeep!" on repeat until my routine returns to normal.

How to Stick to Your Pharmacy Business Resolutions in 2017

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Jan 12, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

Just a couple of weeks into the New Year, so many resolutions have already been forgotten.  Those oh so good intentions to spend more time with our families, grow our businesses, or change a broken process have been put on the back burner, because the daily routines and habits that are already well established have gotten in the way.

According to these statistics, over 25% of resolutions are not maintained past the first week of the New Year.  That number just goes up as the year goes on with only a little over 9% of people feeling that their resolution was achieved.

It's a little disheartening to discover that so many resolutions fail each year.  But that doesn't stop us from trying again.  And each time we do, perhaps we make small adjustments to our resolutions, or how we go about achieving them. But how can we really make a difference this time around?

This article sheds some light about what gets someone to successfully complete a New Year's resolution.  Though many of these points may be tailored to more personal goals like eating healthy or exercising regularly, they can easily be adapted to help you achieve your pharmacy business goals.  Here's a closer look at a few key points:

Why "Different" Can Be Better For Your Pharmacy

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Jan 09, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

We tend to have expectations about almost everything.  How our dinner will taste. How good that new movie will be.  How busy our day at work will be.  Spoken or not, there's a way we expect things to turn out.

This is especially true when it comes to any new project or big venture.  If you make an investment in your pharmacy, you have expectations as to how things will work and what improvements you'll see.
