3 Things Your Pharmacy POS System Should Do

4 years ago, I bought a new car. It had all the bells and whistles and the all-important (at the time) moon roof. I was pretty happy with it. At least for a bit. Then, about three years ago, I discovered that infant car seats do not fit comfortably in the back seat of my sporty little compact car, and that my toddlers hate having the windows open when we drive. Guess what never gets used? 

When you're choosing a POS system for your pharmacy, the choice should be made based on the benefits, both present and future, that the system can offer. Although it's tempting to rely on what's the most convenient in the momentdoing so can lead to long term frustrations.  

It's likely that more than one pharmacy POS system can check most of the boxes on your list of requirements and probably provide a few more features that you weren't even thinking you needed.  Even so, as you go to make your final decision, you may find yourself wondering if you're on the right track. I have a theory that technology in my personal life has it out for me. It never seems to work the way I want it to or think it should. Of course the minute I convince someone to help me fix it, the problem seems to magically disappear.

Is Your Pharmacy Ready for 6 More Weeks of Winter?

Last Thursday, the groundhog saw his shadow and unwittingly forecasted a winter that will last 6 more weeks. Consequently, I spent the day feeling extra cold and longing for warmer weather to return to Western Washington just a bit more than usual (even though spring in Washington state is no guarantee of nice weather). Even so, I'm looking forward to longer days, hopefully fewer clouds and some fresh spring air.  

I'm also looking forward to the end of cold & flu season. Especially with toddlers at home, my family spends the winter months trying to stay dry, warm, and away from other runny noses as much as possible.

Why Flexibility in Your Pharmacy Technology is Severely Underrated

My microwave drives me crazy. Of course, it beeps as expected when it's finished its cooking cycle.  But then it beeps again, loudly and repetitively 30 seconds later, and then 30 seconds after that, and so on until I open the microwave door or press the cancel button.  

I get that some people might like this repetitive reminder feature.  I really do. "Hey, you forgot about something, come check it!"  I'm sure for some it's much appreciated.  But in my household, there's a good chance that I won't be able to open the microwave immediately because I've been derailed from my plans to make a quick cup of tea to dole out snacks to my toddlers or intervene in the latest toy dispute.  I simply can't get back to the microwave immediately. So I get to listen to a very loud "beep beep beeeeeep!" on repeat until my routine returns to normal.

How to Stick to Your Pharmacy Business Resolutions in 2017

Just a couple of weeks into the New Year, so many resolutions have already been forgotten.  Those oh so good intentions to spend more time with our families, grow our businesses, or change a broken process have been put on the back burner, because the daily routines and habits that are already well established have gotten in the way.   

According to these statistics, over 25% of resolutions are not maintained past the first week of the New Year.  That number just goes up as the year goes on with only a little over 9% of people feeling that their resolution was achieved.
