Solving Problems Before They're Problems

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Mar 27, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

No matter how reliable your pharmacy POS system is, there's still a danger of something going wrong. Computers fail, and peripheral hardware gets old. And it's completely outside of your, or anyone's, control.

That doesn't mean that a good portion of hardware issues can't be prevented. And it's actually pretty simple.

Secure Password Requirements Making you Crazy? Try This Alternative.

Strong passwords are  requirment for many applications, including your point-of-sale system. This is a good thing as it's important to restrict access to potentially senstive information.

Using Pharmacy Point-of-Sale and an Educational Approach to Drive Sales

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Mar 09, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

Have you ever been reading an article online and had an ad or news story start to auto-play when you weren't expecting it? Most all of us have had this happen. For me, it always seems to occur when I've got my volume turned up and my office door wide open. It's pushy, it's irritating, and for me it almost always results in the window being immediately closed while I go look for my information elsewhere

Of course, advertising or actively selling, is necessary in one form or another, but there's a fine line between selling and pushing. For pharmacies, it goes a bit further because what you're selling benefits the customer in a completely different way than most other retail verticals. You're in a unique situation that allows you to provide a needed service and increase profitability at the same time.  Instead of driving customer behavior with sales tactics, you can drive it by teaching and informing.

Counseling and teaching your customers may be second nature to some pharmacy staff, but for others, it may be a little more difficult, or completely outside of their comfort zone. A more inexperienced staff member can easily cross over into the land of "pushy" without meaning to.  That's where point-of-sale based tools come into play. Here are a few things that will drive customer behavior in the direction you want without the risk of seeming pushy or overbearing.

How Are You Handling Controlled Substances in Your Pharmacy?

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Feb 27, 2017 @ 09:03 AM

Rules, regulations and sales restrictions are nothing new to pharmacies. They are just a part of how you do business. Still, it's nice to find a way to make required processes easier on you and your staff. And even nicer to find a way that reduces the impact that compliance has on the experience customers have in your pharmacy.

3 Things Your Pharmacy POS System Should Do

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Feb 23, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

4 years ago, I bought a new car. It had all the bells and whistles and the all-important (at the time) moon roof. I was pretty happy with it. At least for a bit. Then, about three years ago, I discovered that infant car seats do not fit comfortably in the back seat of my sporty little compact car, and that my toddlers hate having the windows open when we drive. Guess what never gets used?

When you're choosing a POS system for your pharmacy, the choice should be made based on the benefits, both present and future, that the system can offer. Although it's tempting to rely on what's the most convenient in the momentdoing so can lead to long term frustrations.

It's likely that more than one pharmacy POS system can check most of the boxes on your list of requirements and probably provide a few more features that you weren't even thinking you needed.  Even so, as you go to make your final decision, you may find yourself wondering if you're on the right track. Will this POS system meet your needs, and more importantly, help you meet your goals?  Not a bad question to ask.

Here are three things that your point-of-sale system should do for you.

Are Everyday Processes Keeping You From Being Passionate About Your Pharmacy Business?

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Feb 13, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

In honor of the season of pink candy hearts and too much chocolate, I thought I'd take a few minutes to talk about something that's very important to any business. Passion. Not in the romantic, head over heels kind of way. But in the wake up every morning, excited to go to work, and do something you believe in, way.

Pharmacy POS - Is It Important To Keep Spare Components?

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Jan 30, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

At home, you probably have batteries, lightbulbs, extra rolls of paper towels and tissues.  Lots of things that it just makes sense to have spares of.  So when you run out of something, or a lightbulb breaks or burns out, you have replacements available.  It makes perfect sense.  You'll use it eventually, so why risk not having it when you need it?

The same argument might go for certain supplies in your pharmacy, like receipt paper rolls, statement forms, or labels.

But what about your pharmacy technology?

Overcoming Common Fears About Mobile Pharmacy POS

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Dec 08, 2016 @ 07:00 AM

During the holidays, it's common to spend some time deliberating over finding the right gifts for friends and family.  Sometimes it's easy.  Other times, you might find yourself worrying about practicality and usefulness.  This is especially true if you're looking at any sort of technology gift.  Will it actually get used or will it be too far out of the recipients comfort zone?
