3 Things Your Pharmacy POS System Should Do

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Feb 23, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

4 years ago, I bought a new car. It had all the bells and whistles and the all-important (at the time) moon roof. I was pretty happy with it. At least for a bit. Then, about three years ago, I discovered that infant car seats do not fit comfortably in the back seat of my sporty little compact car, and that my toddlers hate having the windows open when we drive. Guess what never gets used?

When you're choosing a POS system for your pharmacy, the choice should be made based on the benefits, both present and future, that the system can offer. Although it's tempting to rely on what's the most convenient in the momentdoing so can lead to long term frustrations.

It's likely that more than one pharmacy POS system can check most of the boxes on your list of requirements and probably provide a few more features that you weren't even thinking you needed.  Even so, as you go to make your final decision, you may find yourself wondering if you're on the right track. Will this POS system meet your needs, and more importantly, help you meet your goals?  Not a bad question to ask.

Here are three things that your point-of-sale system should do for you.

Are Everyday Processes Keeping You From Being Passionate About Your Pharmacy Business?

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Feb 13, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

In honor of the season of pink candy hearts and too much chocolate, I thought I'd take a few minutes to talk about something that's very important to any business. Passion. Not in the romantic, head over heels kind of way. But in the wake up every morning, excited to go to work, and do something you believe in, way.

Pharmacy POS - Is It Important To Keep Spare Components?

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Jan 30, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

At home, you probably have batteries, lightbulbs, extra rolls of paper towels and tissues.  Lots of things that it just makes sense to have spares of.  So when you run out of something, or a lightbulb breaks or burns out, you have replacements available.  It makes perfect sense.  You'll use it eventually, so why risk not having it when you need it?

The same argument might go for certain supplies in your pharmacy, like receipt paper rolls, statement forms, or labels.

But what about your pharmacy technology?

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Jan 02, 2017 @ 07:00 AM

At RMS, we acknowledge that every pharmacy is a little different.  And the varying needs of all of those unique pharmacies means we are often times presented with requests to do things a little differently.  Fortunately, the POS system usually has a way to manage whatever it is the customer needs. In just a few more days, we'll be celebrating the start of 2017.  Whether you party all night, sip bubbly from the comfort of your couch, or curl up in bed before the clock strikes midnight, once January 1st arrives we enter a new season.  We leave behind twinkly lights and calories galore and begin the season of resolutions and goals. (Some of which will undoubtedly involve undoing the damage all of those holiday calories did.)

Overcoming Common Fears About Mobile Pharmacy POS

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Dec 08, 2016 @ 07:00 AM

During the holidays, it's common to spend some time deliberating over finding the right gifts for friends and family.  Sometimes it's easy.  Other times, you might find yourself worrying about practicality and usefulness.  This is especially true if you're looking at any sort of technology gift.  Will it actually get used or will it be too far out of the recipients comfort zone?

Why Black Friday is Important for Your Pharmacy Even if You think it's Not

Posted by Karen Deckard on Thu, Nov 17, 2016 @ 07:00 AM

In one short week, many people will be rising early to put their Thanksgiving turkey into the oven. Then they'll start peeling potatoes, prepping the green bean casserole and having a quick pep talk with themselves that the pumpkin pie (or pumpkin cheesecake in my case) that they made last night is not a proper breakfast food.  If you've ever cooked a Thanksgiving dinner, you know it's a long day and a lot of work.

But Black Friday can make Thursday look like a cake walk.  Cashiers stand ready behind counters and long lines form long before the sun comes up.  Some retailers will even open on Thanksgiving night. A trend that has only gained momentum in the last few years.

Two Questions to Ask Before You Make a Change in Your Pharmacy

Posted by Karen Deckard on Mon, Nov 07, 2016 @ 07:00 AM

Over the last several weeks I've been busy packing up my home, preparing to move. When you combine all the possessions of my toddlers, the many bits and pieces of technology that belong to my husband, and my own serious addiction to books, well, let's just say I filled a lot of boxes.

What You can Take Away from the World Series to Make Your Pharmacy Excel

Posted by Gary Labuzetta on Mon, Oct 31, 2016 @ 07:00 AM

It’s that time of year again - the World Series! Thirty Major League Baseball teams play 162 games during the course of the season which starts in April, but only 10 make the playoffs come October. The winners of the League Championship Series advance to the World Series - the best team in the American League versus the best team in the National League.

So, what can we in the pharmacy world learn from the teams that have survived to play each other in October? Are they the teams that spend the most on payroll? Or, is it something else?
